AI is an advanced tool for human use, Part 1

This is important. I’m going to speak to AI in health care first because it is a tool we can use to find new cures and streamline health care.

Machine learning several years ago was tightly defined and controlled. AI used for a specific function had human oversight and was also limited by task. Machine learning is still being used for inventory control, bed occupancy management, various nursing workflows, and billing for the Revenue Management Cycle..

AI has evolved into broad-based generative AI designed to “think” at a much greater speed.

The Affordable Care Act locked in the 15-minute billing cycle so clinicians could see more patients on clinical days. Doctors spent as much as. 6 hours on non-clinical days entering patient notes and observations into their Electronic Health Records.

The Bright, a start-up company in the speech recognition space, introduced new speech recognition technology after the Pandemic which could recognize doctor accents and medical terms.

Nvidia is the advanced chip manufacturer that produces the most powerful chips.

Nvidia and The Bright have built a transformative AI speech recognition model that captures doctor-patient clinical conversations, adds appropriate clinical observations using AI, and sends the correct CPT codes to billing, all in 60 milliseconds.

This will streamline the doctor-patient process, enable specialists to see more patients, improve patient access, and enhance physician morale.

They are partnering with Emory Health, Atlanta, in a Beta-test of the AI model, the last step before release of the AI model for sale to other hospitals and systems.

Emory Health’s 3000 (plus) doctors will check each doctor-patient conversation and clinical observations to ensure they are accurate and make corrections as needed. The billing department will verify coding accuracy for bills sent to insurers.

This revolutionary system will improve access and enable more patient engagements with a doctor.

AI will transform health care by finding more cures for diseases and sickness, and identify new methods to prevent disease, something one long time CEO calls ‘Upstream Medicine’.

Health care AI has continuous human oversight to prevent mistakes or AI going rogue. One Information Technology CIO says he treats health care AI as a labor that needs to be monitored like any other labor.

He teaches his staff to be cynical and to always use their critical thinking skills. He cautions them not to develop the attitude that AI is perfect.

AI behavior can make a mistake, that’s why it needs continuous human oversight, regular audits, traceable outputs, clinician verification, and ongoing performance verification.

Human oversight is key to the safe use of AI.

The Pandemic proved that America has a wellness deficit. Americans have a thirst for greater medical, mental, and spiritual wellness. AI will help solve problems human beings cannot.

Your health care is changing quickly now. Holistic healing and preventing disease will have a role in the new Wellness Paradigm that includes stem cell therapy, NAD+ to slow cellular aging, and biological testing of our DNA strands for aging.

This is Part 1 of a two-part conversation about AI. It is that important.
